For us as a children's home, education is an important aspect. Unfortunately, Covid-19 has further worsened the situation in the Honduran education sector. With one project, we succeeded in providing 1'531 children with computer lessons. Last but not least, our three high school graduates have started their further education.
This January, two containers full to the brim with relief supplies for the hurricane victims arrived in San Pedro Sula. After three weeks of preparation and sorting, we were able to hand over the donations to the people in need. We were overwhelmed by the incredible solidarity.
The effects of the hurricanes are still being felt throughout the country. Many people are destitute on the streets. That is why we try to help as many families as possible. In December, we welcomed three new children and the online school year almost ended unnoticed. And above all, a false alarm kept us very busy.
Thank you very much for your support. Thanks to your solidarity, we were able to provide immediate help to the people in Honduras after the hurricanes.
Hurricane Eta, a tropical storm with wind speeds of up to 95 km/h and torrential rainfall, swept over Honduras and left a trail of destruction across the country. Thank God the children's home was spared. We have the privilege to be able to provide immediate disaster relief.
The corona crisis is also changing the way schools teach here in Honduras. Unfortunately, many children are not able to participate in the digital form of learning. I would therefore like to take a closer look at this problem.
The measures taken to stem the spread of the new coronavirus have dramatically increased the already existing poverty and starvation in the country. We were able to isolate ourselves from the outside world in the children's home and are currently coping well with the situation.
