Hurricane «Eta»

Hurricane "Eta" weakens into tropical storm

Hurricane "Eta", rate in the second strongest category four hurricane, hit land in the northeast of Nicaragua with wind speeds of up to 230 km/h. Later, "Eta" weakened into a tropical storm with wind speeds of up to 95 km/h.

However, the storm moved on very slowly and caused extremely heavy rainfall in Honduras.

Great destruction throughout the country

This led to massive flooding in the plains and landslides, rock falls and mudflows in the mountains. As a result, at least about 100 road sections and many bridges were destroyed throughout the country. As a result, villages were cut off from the outside world and were left to fend for themselves.

More than 1.7 million people are affected by the hurricane in various ways. Thousands had to flee and seek shelter before their homes sank into the water masses. Of these, 9,282 people are housed in 175 emergency shelters set up by the disaster control authorities in various regions of the country.

Thousands of hectares of cultivated land have been destroyed. Furthermore, San Pedro Sula airport was completely flooded and severely damaged.

Fortunately the children's home was spared

Thank God we were spared from the floods in the children's home "Yo quiero ser". Accordingly, we are doing well. Therefore, we have the privilege of being able to provide immediate disaster relief for the victims of hurricane Eta. Among other things, we cook for about 300 to 500 people every day and then go to the affected areas with our older kids to hand out the meals. We also distribute flip-flops, crocs, medicines, pampers and water to help people get back to their basic needs.

A container with relief supplies is being organized

Our friends in Switzerland have already started to fill a container with relief supplies. Everything was taken from the poor except for the clothes they wore when fleeing.

We are happy to accept summer clothes, flip-flops, crocs, sandals, mattresses, terry towels, sheets and pampers.
