Carolina Cross Connection

The American organisation Carolina Cross Connection (CCC) offers week-long camp experiences for students and adults from North Carolina to visit various children's homes in Honduras and engage with the children through different activities. We were once again able to open our doors to them this year. Our children thoroughly enjoyed these special visiting days with games, entertainment and lots of attention. Thanks to translators, it is possible for the children to communicate with the Americans and have in-depth conversations. This is the reason why these visits are a great enrichment for both sides...

Weekend Camp in Peña Blanca

The CCC also organised a weekend camp in Peña Blanca. Our teenagers really enjoyed this trip as they were able to discover a new part of Honduras and spend time in nature. They were in great company, with a special and very varied programme. This change of scenery has an almost therapeutic effect on the minds of all participants.

Centro Cultural Sampedrano

Nine of our teenagers attended an afternoon course in "Creative Writing" at the Centro Cultural Sampedrano cultural centre.

Due to their very good performance, their great interest and their talent, Elvin and Brayan received a scholarship for the theatre course from the cultural centre. The course consists of 4 levels with 8 sessions each. Classes take place on Saturday afternoons.

Their teacher is the famous drama teacher Damario Reyes, who is a playwright and cultural manager. He works as an actor, mime artist, puppeteer, stilt walker and stage manager, among other things.

Who knows what hidden talents Elvin and Brayan will bring to light...

Employee Day

The Yo Quiero Ser children's home would not function without its employees. We have a total of 18 employees who look after the children's well-being every day. The caregivers in particular, who are there for the children day and night, are exceptionally important.

That's why they deserve to be spoilt at least once a year. On this day, games and entertainment are organised for them. For once, they are not the organisers, but take on the role of participants. They really enjoyed it and had a great time.

This year, our driver Alfredo was the lucky winner of our employee treasure hunt and found the hidden 500 Lempira banknote (approx. CHF 20.00).

Child’s Day

For most Honduran children, September 10 is one of the most important and beautiful days of the year. This is because the Day of the Child is celebrated on this day. Our children had the privilege of being able to celebrate Children's Day around 10 times. Various companies and groups have visited us and delighted our children with clothes, pizza, gifts, entertainment, games and, above all, lots of fun.

Each time they also smashed a piñata and every child ended up with kilos of sweets afterwards. They were over the moon! The teeth and we, with all the sugar-highs, rather less so. Each child had though to give a share of the sweets to the children in the slums. This way they learn to share with those who are less privileged.

Metamorphosis

The 29 children at the children's home who can already read and write took part in an internal survey. I am happy to share the results of the survey with you. It shows how the children currently feel at the home and the metamorphosis they have undergone.

These data and photos full of shining eyes show that our children's home is the place where the children are enabled to undergo a metamorphosis (self-realisation). The children develop into a new, happier self of their own accord.
