Talent show
The elementary school Laura Vicuña organized with the support of USAID a talent show. Seven of our children competed in the qualification round and knew to impressed the jury with their own theatre piece. During the final they had to perform on a proper stage, alongside many groups from different schools. Some groups sang, others danced, even street dance but the highlight was doubtlessly a national singer who’s an idol for many kids.
The icing on the cake were the medals and diplomas which were handed out to all participants. Kids love trophies and it showed the respect everybody felt for their creativity and fearless hearts.

The night of culture
The annually night of culture is organized by the Aurora Billingue School and became a favorite for our artsy children. Yulissa and Fernando played guitar and performed a dance.
Also our smallest students, Juan Carlos and Luis, came up with a performance. They dressed up as an Hawaiian and a prince and won over all hearts. It was the first time they performed like little stars on a big stage. Very impressive were the nicely custom-made costumes which were designed for each students performance.

Walk with love
The infamously Tom’s Shoes organized once more an interactive afternoon under the theme of “walk with love”. Different children homes from the region were invited. The whole event was very well organized and the volunteers took nicely care of everybody.
A local youth group gave a concert, games were organized and each child received a lovely pair of Tom’s shoes… enabling them to walk home in love.

Concert of Prince Royce
Prince Royce, an American singer and son of Dominican immigrants, came for the first time to San Pedro Sula. All our girls are huge fans and can sing each single song by heart. As a treat for the extraordinary support for the Christmas mail and because of their good behavior were our eight oldest girls, aged between 12 and 16, allowed to go to the concert.
All day long were they occupied with getting ready; the hair straightener had to do his magic, nails had to be polished and the nicest clothes came out of the closets. Pretty nervous and utterly excited had the girls to wait over an hour in front of the stadium before the doors opened themselves. The pre-group were different Honduran talents which are known from TV. For about an hour did they heat up the crowd until Prince Royce stepped on stage. Hard to imagine, that specially the female fans went crazy. Our girls sang along each song, screamed their lungs out and came home pretty exhausted… their eyes spoke though love and each of them dreamed of a fairly tail during this night.

New volunteer
Julia Bartes, 26 years old and from Hamburg came beginning of October to us and was welcomed with open arms from our children. She was as an exchange student in Columbia and went with a program called “world-wards” for one year to Peru. That’s why she’s fluent in Spanish, somewhat familiar with the Latino culture and very easy to make friends among our inhabitants due to her open hearted disposition. Julia comes with a clear idea to us. She does this internship because of different reasons. First of all are her studies in this area and she would love to pursue a career in social work with a focus on children and teenagers. Secondly, does she want to enlarge her horizon and wants to put her theoretical knowledge in to practice. For her it’s important that the children can trust her and that she has time to listen to them and support them if and wherever needed.
