Newsletter October 2012

New volunteer
On October 3, Karin Eggenberger from Obervaz came to our children’s home for three weeks. She will write her matriculation project about our children’s home and came here to take a look at it. She helped a lot in the Sala Cuna but also helped with other daily work.
Being a professional soccer player, she played soccer with the boys every evening and showed them that women, too, can be good at it.

Celebration with all the children’s homes
October 13 was a very special day for many Honduran children, as the charities CEPUDO, Angels of Hope and Food for the Poor invited 25 children’s homes from Honduras for a gathering. All the children wore the same t-shirt and the whole picture looked like a blue sea with sparkling children’s eyes.
On this day, there was a soccer tournament but our soccer teams from “yo quiero ser…” did not really succeed, as they were among the youngest of all.
In the afternoon, there were different games to be played; sack races, face-painting and dancing and singing competitions, where our children have won many prizes.
At the end of the day, we received an award and a refrigerator as a prize for being the „Hogar mas colaborador del 2012“.

Visit to the slum
Several times a year, the children tidy out their closets, which means that they set aside all the dirty and torn clothes for the children of the slum. After having gathered a few bags, we go to the slums with a few of our children and give away the things we collected. As many people in the slums already know us, they run towards our car when they see us approaching.

Chicken soup
Some of the pets we have here are chickens. However, with six roosters, there were too many rooster fights and too many “alarm clocks” in the morning, so we butchered five of them and had delicious chicken soup the next day.

New house
On the pictures you can see the new house we bought. More details will follow in another newsletter.
