Collaboration with the Japanese embassy
Our foundation „yo quiero ser…“ in Honduras is the link between the public school “Centro de Educación Dioniso de Herrera” and the Japanese embassy for the renovation project of the school. It means, that we are in charge to oversee the construction and that we can ensure that the Japanese donations will be used appropriately for the defined cause.
This elementary and secondary school counts approximately 1’000 students and is located on the outskirts of a slum. The school was in a utterly devastating condition; the roofs about to fall apart and the electronic installations a real threat.
Since November, the renovations are taking place and the project should be completed by the beginning of February. This would enable the teachers and their students to start their school year under much better conditions.

Birthday kids
Due to the number of birthdays we celebrate, we decided that all children born in the same month get to celebrate their big day together at the end of each month. The month of November is a very popular month among our children, seven of them had the pleasure to celebrate together.
During the celebration we sing together the typical birthday song „Las mañanitas“, we eat cake and have some fun with the Piñatas.

Certificate award ceremony
All our children finished their school year with good or excellent marks. No wonder that all of them participated with a lot of joy in the annual certificate award ceremony.
The high school students have the possibility to receive a wide range of diplomas. One of our boys, Fernando, who had outstanding scores, had the honour to receive a two-year half-day English scholarship. Luis finished his preschool with a diploma and following children; Mabel, Reyna, Josue and Jonathan have passed the sixth grade and thus the primary school with distinction. Yulissa finished her 3rd secondary year and received at the same time a diploma as a stylist. During the course of the last two years did she attend a “Curso de Belleza” every Sunday morning. An internship was mandatory and she did it at a hair salon which she enjoyed very much. Due to her outstanding work can she continue to work there when she has school vacations.

Gran Comission- Group
A subgroup of the “Gran Comission”, which belongs to the evangelic church, comes for a visit once a month. They play, sing and entertain our children. Furthermore, do they read a story from the bible and translate it into the children’s’ daily life. Our kids enjoy this exchange very much.

Visitors from Switzerland
The 32 year old banker, Angela Boss from Lyss, always wanted to discover new countries and cultures and felt like giving back to less fortunate children. She came to us with the idea to share her time with the children, to give them love and attention. During eight weeks will she spoil our children with quality time. She enjoys cooking very much and spends some time with our cooks to teach them some Swiss dishes. We all got hooked on her fabulous potato gratin. She is also a talented baker and prepares together with the children Christmas cookies. Her delicious plait bread, it is in Switzerland the infamous Sunday bread, became the children’s all favourite breakfast item, especially if some Nutella is spread on top.

Jean-Marc Dubois, together with his wife, visited us from their Dubois foundation. He gained some insights in our daily operations and through long conversations did we receive very interesting and helpful tips on how to improve our structures, to run the operation even more efficient. We took Angela and Jean-Marc to a cigarre factory in Santa Roas. Besides coffee, bananas, shrimps and lobster does Honduras also export a lot of tobacco. The local tobacco is from high quality and with its earthy flavour can it compete with the worlds’ leading products.

Dr. Jaar
The City Council member and mayoral candidate José Jaar has invited all his patients and friends to celebrate his 25 year anniversary as a gynaecologist. We all were also invited and our children enjoyed and appreciated his generosity very much. Brayan scored almost a home run with his Piñat hitting skills, six bags full of candies did he win which he shared among the children. Dr. Jaar is a regular and welcome guest in our children's home. Each child received from him a t-shirt now we have a bunch of miniature doctors running around at home.
