Recently received children
In fact, we did not want to receive new children at the moment, but sometimes we cannot say no. One day, a mother came with her two children Luis (3) and Geovanni (6) and told us that she lived on the street since the death of her boyfriend a month ago. Afterwards we found out that her children had to go begging, and even worse, that Geovanni had to pretend to have a leg paralysis so as to evoke pity and get more money. On the first day, Luis dug in the bin and I had to tell him that he did not have to eat food out of the bin here and that he would get enough food. Both had to be treated for worms and it is visible from day to day that they are happy here in the children’s home.

First communion
Our children are raised catholically, as this is demanded by the nun’s school. This means that they have religious class every Saturday afternoon and four of our girls have passed the exam and the preparation for the first communion, which means that they got administered this sacrament. For Luz Marina, Jessica, Maria and Gabi this was a very special day, as they wore beautiful princess dresses and were the center of attention.

Radio program “Radio Luz”
The catholic radio program “Radio Luz” in San Pedro Sula invited our children’s home in order for us to do a live broadcast for one hour. Everyone was very nervous. The moderator was very open and included the children from the beginning, which made the nervousness disappear rapidly. The children talked about their life experiences, sang songs, recited verses and several listeners called during this hour to greet people and leave their comments. It was a very exciting experience for the children to see a radio studio and take a look behind the scenes. Afterwards, there was a small celebration with cake and I am sure that the children will keep this day in good memory.

Support association Pro Honduras
Changing lives and giving hope are the fundamentals of our activity. We contribute to improving the living conditions in Honduras by supporting the sections of health and education. This is the vision of the association Pro Honduras and this spring, the charity’s president, Nora Leuthold, visited us and gave us two solar lamps for the soccer field and two solar cookers. Thanks to the lamps, we are now able to organize different activities at night on our soccer field and we have also had soccer tournaments by night several times. Traditionally, we cook on a gas range or on a fireplace. Now we can make use of the sun in order to cook different things on the solar cooker.

Broom-machine project
The Spanish missionary Fernando, who lives in Canada, is a very resourceful person and has established projects in several different countries. He visited us this month in order to show us how to do his broom-machine project. Together with the children, he built the machine and showed the children how to make brooms out of PET bottles: first, the bottle has to be sliced into threads, which have to be baked in the oven for ten minutes until hardened. Then they have to be cut into the right size and glued to a wooden block, which has to be attached to the broomstick, and this makes the broom complete.
