Contacting other children’s homes and the neighbourhood
We try to maintain the relationship to other children’s homes. It is very interesting because some children know each other from the IHNFA, and they can cultivate their friendship by keeping in touch. This time we visited the children's home Pro Niño in Progresso. The boys played a soccer game and our kids won 1:0. There we also met Darwin again. He lived with us during two years, but since last summer he stays with his brother in Pro Niño.

Although we live in a very dangerous neighbourhood, we don’t want to lock ourselves in. On Saturday mornings, our children usually have a soccer tournament on the big soccer field next to the children’s home. That way, our children get into contact with other kids from the neighbourhood.

Mother’s Day
The school organized a special program for Mother’s Day, in which the students performed class by class. From the smallest to the oldest, everybody gave their best and we have many a talent among our kids. Enrique had a solo performance in singing accompanied by a Mexican background group. Luz Marina and Maria motivated the 4th grade to a modern dance. The 3rd grade presented a folklore dance and even the smallest moved to the rhythm.

Quinceañera
In parts of Latin America, the celebration of Quinceañera is the fifteenth birthday party of a teenager. The party signifies the changeover from girl to a young woman. For this occasion, the Quinceañera wears make-up, is all spiffed up, wears a nice dress and stands in the centre of attention during the whole day. Maria celebrated her fifteenth birthday on May 17. We invited her family, who lives outside the city, to have pizza with us. She told us that she felt like a princess and enjoyed her day to the full.

Waterpark
On a Sunday, our volunteer Dave Böhler invited us to the waterpark “Wonderland“. That’s always a special experience and the children are really looking forward to it. They always get up very early on such days. Everybody enjoyed it, and as a highlight we welcomed Melanie Simonet from Thusis. She will stay with us for 6 weeks. She speaks Spanish fluently, so there were no language barriers and the kids welcomed her with open arms. Melanie sleeps in the Sala Cuna and mainly supports Olga with the daily work with the smallest. She also helps older children with homework and keeps them busy in their leisure time.
