The school’s Inauguration with the Japanese presence
On March 7th was the official inauguration of the school Dionisio de Herrera in San Pedro Sula after the big refurbishment. As the renovation process was done with Japanese support, we were delighted to welcome the Japanese ambassador Kenji Okada, the Japanese Consul Karim Qubain, the manager of the Japanese cooperation Tsuyoschi Sasaki, the manager of TN5 Matutino Juan Carlos Sierra (TV), the members of the citycouncil Dr Jaar and lawyer Gloria Milian, as well as the local press. We are very proud, that our foundation was highly honored for the professional work concerning the accounting, transparency and reliability. Being thankful for the opportunity to successfully finish this project, we do hope that the positive feedback will open doors for future projects.

Josue is going to school
Josue, who is suffering the fetal alocohol syndrome, is turning eleven this year. Due to his disability we weren’t able to find a suitable school for Josue, up until now. In the last couple of years Josue made great progress. He learned how to walk and eat, and use the bathroom indipendently. We therefore decided that it was time to send him to a special school. Since the beginning of March he is a proud student at the IMDEE (Instituto Municipal de Educación Especial), withdaily classes from 7:00 until 11:00. Josue is enjoys this new challenge and puts on a big smile every morning, when he gets dressed in his school uniform. This makes us very happy and proud, considering the fact, that in 2009 the doctors only gave him a few more months to live. Today he is a happy, independent boy, who understands everything. And who knows, maybe one day he might even talk.

Karaoke Evenening
On one the evening we organized a Karaoke sing along evening in our house. Being a bit nervous and shy in the beginning, the children lost all their constraint after performing their first song. They kept on singing all night and didn’t want to stop. Little Mayte impressed us all, performing a song for the mother of god, with her beautiful angel like voice.

Cleaning Day
Saturday is cleaning day at Yo Quiero Ser and everyone is involved in polishing our home. Luckily there are so many helping hands, that even wiping and scrubbing the 350m2 courtyard is done with a lot of fun within a couple of hours.

Semana Santa
During the traditional Semana Santa (Easter holidays) the kids get off school for one week. Most of the people tend to spend these days at the beach. As these days all beaches are very crowded and too dangerous, we are not following this trend. Instead we decided to organize some exciting activities around our house and in town. One day we had great fun at the waterpark, the other day everyone hiked up the Coca Cola hill, we enjoyed some ice cream in the sun and put up three swimming pools at our house, where the kids had fun all day long. Baring in mind the holy reason for these holidays, we took part in the daily activities of the local church. On Thursday the last feast was celebrated and the children got their feet washed. On Friday we joined the 1 ½ hour Way to the Cross and celebrated the three hour church service on Saturday. After watching the play of the brav Paulus at the Gran Comision the kids returned home full of enthusiasm. These days we managed to combine fun and the religious festival, and all the children enjoyed the holidays, before returning to school and getting ready for some exams in the beginning of April.
