Volunteer Months
David Böhler, Karin Eggenberger, Alessandra and Raffaela Zaugg visited us during 3 to 8 weeks and assisted us in our daily lives.
David painted our outer walls, Karin helped in the Sala Cuna and sewed for hours. Alessandra and Raffaela predominantly helped in the kitchen and updated our homepage, which they then translated into English. Furthermore, the young ladies also crafted the gifts for the godparents and the sponsors with the children.
The children really appreciated and enjoyed the volunteers‘ presence, since there was always something to do. We went out for pizza together, visited a playground and a fairground, went for ice cream with the little ones... but, most of all, they received lots of love, attention, security and a friendly smile from the Swiss.

José Luis
We’re happy to announce the arrival of our new little home resident. His name is José and he is three years old. His very young mother gave birth to the premature baby at the IHNFA. In his first years of age, he also suffered from heavy malnutrition and only weighs 10 kilos today.
In the beginning, he was very shy, but only after a week he unbent and has now become a big and very affectionate scallywag. The educators of the Sala Cuna have to look for him constantly, as he disappears as soon as one forgets to keep one’s eyes glued to him for a couple of seconds.

Chickenpox, continued
Summer 2010, we experienced the first exacerbation of chickenpox. Back then, nearly all the kids were affected, and this month the new kids, who haven’t had chickenpox yet, had their turn. You might imagine that it is extremely uncomfortable to suffer from high temperature and variola, which you aren’t allowed to scratch open, and to make matters worse, at 30 ° Celsius. Briny suffered a lot during one week, although she was tended well by Raffaela, who repeatedly slathered her with a menthol lotion, so that she wouldn’t scratch herself.

Dia del Indio
Every year, July 20 is the day of Indio Lempira, who fought against the Spanish invaders. This day is celebrated in every school and our high school students, too, represented a Honduran canton; the most beautiful native and Indio Lempira were elected and, of course, the typical, traditional dances were not to be forgotten.

Wonderland
Since temperatures are currently summery hot, everyone was enthusiastic about being invited to a water park on a Sunday. The kids spent the whole day swimming and enjoying the fresh, cooling water, the slides, and the tasty lunch.
Upon coming home dog-tired, we noticed that the little ones of Sala Cuna had caught the rotavirus, so that they suffered from diarrhea and vomiting for a week.
American friends
Our friends from the States (Mike, Leann and 6 more people) from Iglesia Gran Comission visit us for a week every year and always have a little project to accomplish. This time, they completed our playground by painting the mounted equipment. We went to church service together, and to round off, we were invited to spend a whole day with them at the pool of their hotel.
