Newsletter February 2017

A new school year
The new school year 2017 started at the beginning of February. Preparations are very demanding and organizationally it is still a challenge, although we have some years of experience. Two local school material suppliers made a big schoolbook donation for the new school year, which we gladly accepted and are grateful for.

This year twenty pupils attend primary school: Yossely the first kindergarten, four children the second kindergarten, two children the first grade, Luis the second grade, five children the third grade, four children the fourth grade and three girls the sixth grade.

There are eleven teenagers in secondary school: one attends the first, three the second and five the third grade. Fernando visits the first grade and Yulissa the second grade of the vocational school.

Josue is attending the special school IMDEE again this year. He is the by far the most excited child to be able to wear his school uniform again. Every morning he stands at the gate very early and is ready for a new day of school.
All children attend private, nun-run schools. We believe that good education is the only way to break the vicious circle of poverty and exploitation in a country.

New school and computer rooms
For the current school year, we have set up a new computer room, which is in daily use by our secondary school students. They need to work with a school platform and therefore access to a computer and the internet is required for all.

With the last container we received new desks from the primary school Tinizong (Switzerland). So we were able to hand down our older desks and were once more stunned how immortal the former desks from the school in Celerina are. After accompanying students in this Swiss borough of Celerina for many years, they served us for over six years and today, they are in daily use in a school on the island of Roatan.

"Wherever you go, always go with all your heart"
This saying fits perfectly with many people who visit our childrens home. It was the same with Mr. Smith. He visited us two years ago with a group from Carolina Cross Connection and closed all our children in his heart.

That's why he flew back from America to Honduras to see the children again and stayed with us for three days. He brought a gift bag with sneakers and sweets for each child. He bought all presents on his own initiative.

Also in the course of the year, he always supports us with things that we can not buy here in Honduras. He recently sent us vitamins in the form of gummy bears. We deworm our children twice a year for a week and afterwards we do not want to torture them for another week of vitamins in the form of liquids or tablets. Therefore were the gummy bears a brilliant alternative.

Inauguration of ACEP (ACADEMIA DE EXCELENCIA PROFESIONAL) in Santa Rosa de Copán
For a long time, it has been a great concern for us to offer young adults opportunities to start their professional lives. Our new institution ties in with its offer directly to the previous project and secures with 10 courses and 20 trainers continuity and sustainability in education for around 700 people per year.

Finally the time has come. After almost 2 1/2 years of construction, the buildings of our vocational school ACEP were ready for occupation and the inauguration could take place. It was a great honor and joy for us that around 110 people participated in this special event. Especially our project leader Edwing Guardado was praised by all sides for the beauty of the buildings and the spacious rooms.

The Foundation "yo quiero ser ..." and the Foundation CAMO (Central American Medical Outreach) have formed an alliance to work together in the future. At the inauguration, CAMO Foundation President, Kathy Tschiegg, and the president of "yo quiero ser ...", Patricia Scarpatetti, cut the ribbon together. Pastor Ivan Ayala then blessed the building. Even the mayor of the city, Aniban Alvarado, accompanied us and thanked in the name of all the people of Santa Rosa and the surrounding area for this sustainable and future oriented project.
