Scuntrada 2014
Every year takes the “Scuntrada” in Oberhalbstein place and „yo quiero ser...“ was once again represented with a market stand. The main attraction was the self-made wood oven bread as well as the Honduran jewelry and sandals.
The support of the Sursetter community was immense and we highly appreciate it.

Clash
Even though our children mostly have a guardian angel on their side, an incident happened between Mayte and Geovanni while playing on the schoolground during a brake. They ran into each other and both got away with a laceration which had to be treated by our home doctor. Luckily were both of them all smiles by the end of the day.

Laguna
Honduras is known for its greenery and lush countryside just outside of big cities. One green lung close to San Pedro Sula is the Laguna in Ticamaya. On a calm Sunday did we prepare for a picknick and drove to the Laguna where we ate together and enjoyed the freedom. Some kids even brought along their schoolbooks and climbed up to a quiet tree to study for some upcoming exams. Others tried their luck with fishing which wasn’t a huge success mainly due to the self-made fishing rod. The smallest of all enjoyed the pirate scene on a boat and some brave ones couldn’t resist the water and went for a swim.

Educational projects
Since we are involved with our children home “yo quiero ser…” did we become more and more aware of the utterly poor education system in Honduras.
The foundation „yo quiero ser...“ decided to become more actively involved in this challenging field and faces true hardship while discovering the reality of schools less privileged than the ones our children can attend. A wide majority of schools doesn’t even have chairs, tables or chalkboards, let alone a waterproof roof. If basic needs can’t be met must the society become active. Those circumstances wont lead Honduras into a better future.

Luckily enough can we count on Kühne + Nagel Schweiz as well as on the van Kesteren Foundation’s support in this matter. They sponsored the transport and the handling involved of a huge container. The container has been packed with old swiss school furniture which have been donated.

All the equipment which reached us has been given free of charge to schools desperately in need. The deans, teachers and all the children were outstandingly thankful. Lets hope that this will have a positive influence on their scholastic achievements and moreover that they feel joy attending school.

Sport event
Our home organized a sports event between our and two other children homes. We sat up a soccer tournament which is obviously the most celebrated sport in Honduras. We carried out the games on the communal soccer field close to our home. The nerves rose high, tension was in the air, the children were seriously involved in the games. It was a wonderful event, icing on the cake was the trophy for their second place.

Visitor from Switzerland
Eliane Wildhaber from Maienfeld GR was our volunteer in 2013 for three months. The children were really excited when they saw their old friend again. She spent three weeks with us and was right back into Honduran lifestyle and as expected a wonderful support for everybody involved. The smallest ones were very lucky to spend quality time with her in the Sala Cuna, also her admirer Geovanni got his fair share while going over his schoolwork with her. At the end of her visit did she spoil us with a wonderful dinner at a pizza place, heaven for all of us.
