New Children
Two siblings, Jeimy (5 years old) and Manuel (2 years old), are our newest habitants in the children home. They enjoyed a very warm welcome from all our children and staff members. Their parents are imprisoned and the aunt was supposed to take the children into custody. Unfortunately, was she completely overwhelmed and could not handle the situation that is why she left the children at the prison. Jeimy is a very witty and active little girl. She is now attending kindergarten and she loves it. Manuel is our little sunshine; he is very content and loves to eat. Both felt right after their arrival very homey, it did not take them long to adjust to the new environment. Every evening are both of them filled with joy when they can go to their own children bed, which feels so cosy to them, because before they only had a cardboard to sleep on.

New Playground
In 2013, a new wooden playground has been built for the children. Unfortunately, do the bark beetles like our playground as much as the childrendo and they ate all the inner structure of the wood. It became quite dangerous and we had to come up with a new project. Edwing and other employees helped to construct a new playground but this time around, one with a solid iron structure. It looks and feels very sturdy and should last many years. The new playground counts now two tall towers, a bridge, two fire fighter ladders, a slide and a tunnel, a climbing pole and many more things. Our friends from ROOM came to paint the structure and it looks very cheerful. The children can spend now plenty of time with playing, climbing and sliding and we do not have to worry anymore in regards of their safety.

Dinosaur Exposition
“yo quiero ser...” has been invited to a dinosaur exposition at the City Mall. The exposition was very modern and innovative. In each chamber did they have the chance to get in touch with the newest technology, it was very impressive to see how easily they can interact with it. At the beginning did they receive all the instructions on an i-Pad, afterwards did they watch a dinosaur movie in 3D, thereafter did they fill in a quiz on a computer and finished off the parcours with a dinosaur game on Wii. Most of the children left the exhibition quite overwhelmed, some were though very sad that they never had and never will have the chance to meet a real dinosaur.

Visitors from Switzerland
Cynthia Sieber from Winterthur and Robin Demarmels from Salouf came to visit us at “yo quiero ser...” and wanted to join our children in their daily routines. Cynthia was mainly helping at the Sala Cuna, painting easter eggs and playing for hours on the playground. Robin was very helpful everywhere where we were missing a practical and caring pair of hands. Our children enjoy spending time with our volunteers very much and never tell them adios, instead they say hasta pronto.

PANACAM
On a beautiful Saturday, we packed our backpacks and went with our high school students to the Cerro Azul Meamber Park where we hiked for 2.5 hours through the fog forest, a tropical forest. The hike was about 5.1 km long and it took our teenagers to beautiful places where they were able to enjoy amazing panoramic views, all sorts of landscapes, and they mentioned that they enjoyed the quiet and majestic surrounding very much. After the hike we stopped at the largest lake in Honduras, Lago de Yojoa, and we ate some delicious fresh fish. Such excursions form unforgettable memories for our children and it helps them to improve their general knowledge. Furthermore, do they get to learn about flora and fauna very vividly, which helps them to remember things for even longer.

Excursion to the Pulhapanzak
The waterfall Pulhapanzak, the name comes from the Náhuatl language and stands for white water, is with its’ 43m in height the tallest waterfall in Honduras. Since 1976 is the area a natural reserve and a very popular tourist attraction.
Our children were deeply impressed by the waterfall and its roaring personality. Afterwards did we go swimming in the river and enjoyed the untouched nature and its beautiful setting.

Worldwide Social Project by Kühne und Nagel
The logistic firm Kühne und Nagel AG founded a worldwide social project, which is linked to a modified relay race (Baton Challenge). Each country, in which the firm has a branch, will once receive the baton and then has to organise a social project of their choice. We were lucky enough, that the branch in San Pedro Sula chose us as their social project. It took place end of April and they did put a lot of thought into it. Clowns came all morning to entertain the children and to play with them, afterwards did everybody enjoy a lovely snack with cake and piñata. It is always a great honour that the Kühne und Nagel AG grants us all sorts of valuable support. We are utterly appreciative.
