Silke
Silke Ramsch from Hilzingen Germany spent six month with as a volunteer. While the children were on summer break she taught them English, helped labelling all school books for each child and ensured that everything is ready for the new semester. At the end she even helped us painting the walls and pipelines oft he new building which turned out beautifully. The music association Schlatt am Randen, where Silke is a member, organized a Christmas concert to the benefit of the childrens home “yo quiero ser...”. The company Dachser, for which Silke used to work, organized a fundraising campaign as well. It is very touching to know that people are generous and moved when it comes to children, actually to our children. They feel connected to us through people they know and are ensured, that their donations are going where most needed.

Semana Santa
The last years we used to spend the easter week in Santa Rosa de Copan. Unfortunately, this year it wasn’t possible due to a damaged pipeline which affects the swimming pool. We decided out of hand to stay in the city an putting up two pools in our garden. The children were able to cool themselves down in the backyard, holiday feeling was booked too and extensive water fun was certain. After spending most oft the time in or right next to the water, most oft he children were tanned like never before. During this week the children participated also in the churches activities. On Thursday they did the feet washing ceremony, on Friday they were part of the Via Cruzis, on Saturday and Sunday they went to mass. The catholic community is very happy about the children’s’ participation and they have been pretty spoiled by the other members.

JCI
The JCI (Junior Chamber International) is a global network which counts approximately 200‘000 young, active citizens in more than 120 countries. Their goal is it to provide children with a better future, to give perspectives and change the society sustainably. JCI San Pedro Sula welcomed us at the anthropological museum with traditional marimba music. Each child received a pair of house shoes as a personal gift. It is wonderful to see how our children are treated with such respect and warmth by complete strangers. Furthermore, is it very rewarding to hear how the people are impressed by the good manners of our children. The children are the little fruits of our daily efforts to turn them in to caring and responsible citizen.

Dog school
Up until today we welcomed many schools or students into our home but this time we were blessed with a whole new experience. A dog school payed us a visit. Our children were ecstatic about the well trained dogs. The trainers showed the children how they train the dogs, what their aim is and what discipline goes in to it to reach the outcome they were presented with. The same evening some of the children tried to train our two dogs as well but it ended soon after, it was definitely less of a success story... well, we might started a bit too late.

Santa Rosa de Copan
The first building in Santa Rosa de Copan is already built. It is situated right next to the entrance and is meant for the keepers family. It counts a office, bedroom and living room on the upper level and a water pump, water tank and storage room on the ground floor. Furthermore, have the water pipelines been drawn to the lot. Now we started building the main building. Our idea is it to build a center for vocational training. To get some ideas we visited the Don Bosco Project in Tegucigalpa and returned with plenty ideas and a lot of enthusiasm. The new project is called „Centro de Desarollo Humano yo quiero ser...“ and will serve mainly to train technical jobs to youngsters, single mothers and social disadvantaged children. Following apprenticeship are planned: carpenter, mechanic, electrician, farmer, baker, tailor, hair dresser, cosmetician and black smith. All of them will also have access to IT training and general handy work training. We aim to enable access to training to disadvantaged people where they can learn skills which can be transferred to their daily life to eventually build a better future for them and their families. It should hinder young adults to become members of gangs and instead turning them into role models for a new generation.
