Newsletter 2nd Quarter 2022

Easter Week

We spent the Easter week at the home and the children were never bored as we had bought several swimming pools of different sizes and they were allowed to swim in them all day. There were also special meals like seafood soup, fish, hamburgers, pizza and snacks such as ice cream, donuts, etc.

With our volunteer Cynthia Sieber, the little ones painted and decorated hard boiled Easter eggs. This is how Easter traditions make it to Honduras...

The Christian faith was also celebrated. Our primary and secondary students participated in church services every day from Thursday to Saturday and on Good Friday they even walked the Stations of the Cross as a procession.

Summer Day

After Easter week, the San Pedro Sula Municipality organized a summer day for our children. They came to our home, set up a bouncy castle and swimming pools and played traditional games with the children such as egg race (bringing the eggs to the center on a spoon), sack race and lottery. A delicious snack was also provided.

It was a great day for all the children. Especially our little ones enjoyed themselves very much and had an extremely exciting day.

New Look

At the beginning of the COVID pandemic, we painted our "protective wall" for the last time. Now the time has come to give our home a new look. This time we chose a nice shade of green to paint the inside and outside of the protective wall and the lower window beams of all the buildings.

We also renovated the Sala Cuna (baby section). The dining room, playroom and living room have been combined into a single, large room. Only the babies' bedroom is a separate room. Each child has its own cot and is protected by a mosquito net. We currently have 10 toddlers from 2 months to school age.

New Kids

This quarter we welcomed two little ones. The first one was Gissel, who is 3 ½ years old and came to us as a rejected migrant. At first, we were very worried if she might have bad hearing or even be deaf. Fortunately, all the hearing tests that were carried out showed that she has no hearing problems. Until now, she only speaks single syllables "aa aa", but she is doing well and beaming with joy and gratitude to be able to live in a safe place.

About a month later, DINAF brought little Estefany to us because her mother was begging with her at the roadside. The little girl was only 6 weeks old and came to us in a pitiful and precarious state of health.

Our pediatrician examined her immediately and prescribed the right medication which quickly took effect. She is a diligent bottle drinker and has already put on weight.

«Fumigar»

Every three months a company comes and "fumigates" all the interiors to get rid of unwanted bugs. As it has often been rainy in recent months and the remaining puddles attract mosquitoes, it is very important to protect ourselves from dengue fever in the first place, as the number of dengue cases has increased greatly in recent months.

Visit at the Childrens Museum

The children's museum El Pequeño Sula in San Pedro Sula is dedicated to teaching science and technology to children and includes various interactive rooms on scientific topics. The exhibits are designed to be child-friendly and cover science topics such as astronomy, geography, geology, environment, and paleontology. There is also the Jurassic Adventure, an exhibition of fossils and a full-scale replica of a Tyrannosaurus Rex with its eggs. In addition, an exhibition on the Honduran National Police can be visited in the museum.

The children enjoyed this exciting afternoon very much and came back to the home happy with many new insights.

Awards for our High School Students

Our high school students from the Instituto Tecnologico Sampedrano received 5 medals for their excellent intermediate grades on Student Day. They won first place in the football tournament and lived up to their reputation as the best players. They also took part in the La Prensa marathon and easily managed the distance of 10 kilometers as they are in good shape

It's nice to see them succeeding not only in academics but also in sports.

Yoga Afternoon

Our friend Marzin Arauz organized a yoga afternoon for our children, together with her 2 daughters and her son. During this she performed various exercises and the children were able to enter into their inner peace. She showed practices on how to connect body, breath and mind and how to use different postures, breathing exercises and meditations to improve overall health.

They also brought us pizza and played with our children after the yoga class ended.

It is wonderful to be able to maintain such special friendships for years already...

Mothers Day

For Mother's Day, we invited all the mothers of our children, although unfortunately "only" 3 were present that day. Together we had a delicious lunch and the children presented their mothers with a small gift. It was nice to spend this special day together with them.

Meanwhile, many of our children understood that a mother is not only the woman who gave them life but can also be the person who is there for them day and night and who has taken on the role of mother.

Social project "Newborn Kits»

In Ciudad Mujer (Women's City), a program run by the state, underage pregnant women are allowed to see a gynecologist free of charge. They are examined every month and prepared for the upcoming birth.

For Mother's Day, we put together 50 "newborn kits" for teenage mothers between the ages of 12 and 17. Each mother received such a kit shortly before the birth, consisting of a baby blanket, three onesies, some Pampers, wet wipes, shampoo, body lotion and sanitary towels. With this helpful kit, they should be able to face the birth with a little bit more confidence.
