Children Home «Yo Quiero Ser..»

Course “Education for Life”

Together with our partner organization Asociación Jóvenes para Honduras, our children and educators were able to take part in the “Education for Life” course for four months. In four different age groups, important topics for everyday life were addressed. Among the subjects the young people explored were self-confidence, emotions, communication, friendship, sexuality, life planning, job search, job interviews, as well as handling money and responsibility.
The four months were intense and highly enriching. Feedback clearly shows how positively the course was received. It is now up to all participants to gradually integrate what they have learned into their daily lives so that the children can grow strong, confident, and well-prepared for their future.

Solar Panels for the Children’s Home

Thanks to a generous private donation, a modern solar system was installed at the children’s home. This step means far more than just a technical improvement. The system enables sustainable and cost-efficient energy supply and reduces our dependence on the public power grid.
Especially in our region, where power outages occur repeatedly, this investment is invaluable. The children and staff can now rely on a stable electricity supply for lighting, the kitchen, learning spaces, or basic safety.
The solar panels thus make an important contribution to environmental protection and strengthens the stability and future viability of our children’s home.
As a special highlight, the implementing company also gifted us a training day for the children. This allowed them to understand the new system and learn how sustainable energy works. It was a great experience and an important contribution to the education and future of our young people.

“Semana de Oxigenación” - A Week to Recharge

Twice a year, our children enjoy a school holiday week that we intentionally design as the “Semana de Oxigenación”: a week to breathe, recharge, and simply be children.
During this special time, we organize various activities aimed at promoting well-being, relaxation, and joy. These include creative workshops, games, physical activities, short excursions in the area, and shared experiences that bring variety to everyday life at the home.
A particular highlight is the pool day, which everyone looks forward to. In the water, the children can play freely, laugh, and gather new energy while swimming or simply playing with the water.
This week is incredibly valuable for the children, as it not only provides a break from school routines but also creates beautiful memories, strengthens the sense of community, and supports emotional recovery. It is close to our hearts to offer the children such moments of happiness and lightness.

“Día del Niño” – An Unforgettable Day for Our Children

This year, we once again celebrated Día del Niño in a big way. With a colorful and varied program, we brought immense joy to the children.
Highlights included haircuts for the boys and the loving tradition of Greta Hofmann, who gifts new clothes to the children every year. At the home, we celebrated together and welcomed numerous guests who brought gifts. For our children, this meant not just one, but many unforgettable days full of joy and surprises.
A special treat was the invitation to Pizza Hut, which brought even more bright smiles and made the day truly special.
Día del Niño is an annual reminder of how important it is to give children moments of happiness, lightness, and appreciation. And that is exactly what we aim to achieve with this celebration.

Participation in “Granja de Zenón”

Thanks to our friendly partner company TRC, our children were able to take part in a very special experience: the show La Granja de Zenón.
Until then, the children only knew the cheerful farm characters from television, but now they could experience them live. The youngest sang enthusiastically along to all the songs, while the older ones found some parts perhaps a little “childish.” Still, for everyone it was a unique experience filled with joy, wonder, and shared moments.

Unión y Esperanza

Día del Niño in the Community

The children from the “Yo Quiero Ser..” children’s home organized an unforgettable Día del Niño for all the children in the Unión y Esperanza community. Currently, 278 children live in the community, and all were invited to celebrate this special day.
After a warm welcome, there was a delicious shared lunch, followed by small gifts, lovingly prepared bags full of sweets, and a tasty cake.
Of course, the colorful piñata was a must, bringing lots of laughter, cheerful chaos, and bright eyes all around.
It was a day full of togetherness, warmth, and gratitude. A celebration that will remain in everyone’s memory for a long time.

Soccer Tournament: “Yo Quiero Ser..” vs. Unión y Esperanza

With great anticipation and after weeks of preparation, the girls’ and boys’ teams from the “Yo Quiero Ser..” children’s home and the Unión y Esperanza community faced off in an exciting soccer tournament. The dusty field was no obstacle, on the contrary, it gave the game a special atmosphere, and everyone gave their best from the start.
Both matches were fiercely contested and ended only after penalty shootouts. The tension was enormous, the cheering loud, and emotions ran high... just as in a real tournament.
In the end, the Yo Quiero Ser teams celebrated victory in both matches. But regardless of the result, the focus was on fair play, team spirit, and the joy of playing together.

Community and Cooperation – A Village Growing Together

It is impressive to see how much the Unión y Esperanza community has grown together in recent years. The various working groups are committed and reliable, and every family takes responsibility for their small tasks.
This collective effort ensures that the village remains clean, welcoming, and vibrant. The ongoing cooperation of everyone shows the strength of a well-functioning community and that great things can be achieved when many hands work together.

El Alpinista School

Family Day strengthening community

The school places great importance on togetherness and regularly involves the entire village of Unión y Esperanza.
In August, students and parents celebrated Family Day together, a day full of joy, games, and meaningful encounters. The many activities not only strengthened the sense of community but also enhanced collaboration between the school and families. It was a day that will remain a cherished memory for everyone.

Fiestas Patrias & Independence Day

September in Honduras is all about the Fiestas Patrias. On September 15, Independence Day was celebrated festively in Unión y Esperanza.
The different classes had prepared folkloric dances with great care and presented them with pride. The enthusiastic applause reflected the appreciation and joy for the children’s cultural performances.

Desfile de Antorchas – A Light of Hope

Our school community proudly joined the first torch parade, illuminating the streets with the light of freedom and civic spirit that defines us. ✨
Each flame symbolized commitment, unity, and hope for a better future for our homeland. Our students participated with great enthusiasm, reminding us that true independence lives in our hearts and in our daily actions.

Successful Participation in the Regional Cycling Race

To prepare for a major regional race, the school in Unión y Esperanza first organized its own cycling competition for all students. Afterwards, the children took part in the big race in the Santa Bárbara department.
With great effort and perseverance, they competed and success followed: three students from El Alpinista School proudly returned with medals. A wonderful moment for the children, their families, and the entire village community.
